Resources for Teachers/Educators
The MWMC offers tours of the regional wastewater treatment plant for students in the Springfield, Eugene and Bethel School Districts. Please contact Rachael Chilton, MWMC Public Information & Education Specialist, (541-726-3695) to arrange a tour.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour
In recent years the treatment plant has been primarily closed to public tours due to the level of construction activity. With construction activity wrapping up, we are excited to welcome school groups back for the 2011-2012 school year!
The site is open to all middle and high school classes in the Springfield, Eugene, and Bethel School Districts. Due to safety concerns we do not offer tours to elementary aged students, with the exception of Springfield fifth grade classes who participate in the City of Springfield's "Clean Water University" program.
We are also happy to provide tours for home school groups, but due to safety concerns all children on the tour must be at least 10 years old.
Please expect to be on-site for approximately 90 minutes. Everyone participating in the tour must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals) and there is no eating while on the tour.
